Who we are
Ember is an app for fictional AI characters. Questions and requests: support@emberstory.app.
What we store
Your name, gender and age band, the email you add (if you do), your chats with characters, the memories Ember derives from them (for example facts you told a character and lines of his you kept), the voice notes, narrated scenes, songs and pictures you request, your voice choices, your Gem and Black Rose balances and purchases, characters you create, favourites, settings and reports you send.
Why
To run the app: to write replies, remember what you told a character, keep your balance correct, review shared characters for safety and respond to reports.
Who processes it
Supabase hosts our servers, database and private file storage. OpenAI writes the characters: it receives your messages, the recent conversation, the memories of that story and the name you chose, to write replies, Inner Thoughts, story memories, the short messages a character sends you later, song lyrics and characters you create, and to screen characters you create for safety. ElevenLabs creates voice notes and narrated scenes: it receives only the text of the character message you chose to hear (his spoken lines and, for narrated scenes, the narration) and the voices you picked, never your own messages. Google (Gemini) creates songs and pictures: for a song it receives the lyrics and a style description, and the lyrics are written from your story, so they can contain the name you chose and details you shared; for a picture it receives only the character’s reference portrait and a fixed scene description. RevenueCat, Apple and Google handle purchases, and an email provider sends your sign-in code. Meta is used only if you allow advertising measurement (see below). These providers process data on our behalf to run these features, and some of them process it outside your country, including in the United States.
Voice notes, scenes and songs
Voice notes, narrated scenes and songs are only created when you request or open them. They are AI-generated, stored privately in your Ember account and can be replayed without creating them again. Songs can be downloaded on Plus and Ultra; a downloaded file is outside Ember and under your control. If a request fails, the reserved Black Roses are returned.
Notifications
If you turn on notifications, Ember schedules them on your device: for example a short message from a character you talked to, a note that a voice note or song is waiting, or a reminder that free Gems are ready. The text of a character’s message can appear on your lock screen. Turn notifications off in Ember’s settings or in your phone settings at any time.
Product events
Ember records simple usage events, for example that you viewed a character, started a chat, how many messages you sent and when you saw the shop. They are tied to your account id and a random session id. They never contain the text of your messages, your email address or device identifiers, and are used to improve the app. Optional advertising measurement is described below.
Optional advertising measurement
On the web, with your permission, Ember uses the Meta Pixel and server-side Conversions API to measure registration, selected Fantasy identifiers and neutral categories, usage milestones, upgrade intent and verified purchase amounts/currency. The server hashes your account identifier and, if verified, your email address with SHA-256 before matching; hashed identifiers can still be personal data. The server does not send IP addresses or advertising cookie identifiers. The browser Pixel may receive page addresses, browser/connection information and advertising cookies. We never send chat messages, story text, Inner Thought text, hooks, intensity tags or inferred psychological information. You can reject measurement or withdraw permission through Privacy choices without losing access to Ember. Server events are checked against current permission before delivery. Advertising click identifiers are stored only after permission.
Optional iOS advertising measurement
On iOS, the Meta App Events SDK is used only after you enter a Fantasy, explicitly allow advertising measurement and grant Apple App Tracking Transparency permission. It measures selected Fantasy identifiers and neutral categories, usage milestones, upgrade intent and verified purchase amounts/currency. With both permissions, the SDK can receive your advertising identifier (IDFA), app and device information and connection metadata such as your IP address, and Meta may link this information with activity from other companies for advertising measurement. We do not give the SDK chat messages, story or Inner Thought text, hooks, intensity tags, your name or your email. Automatic app-event and purchase logging are disabled. Without either permission, Ember sends no SDK events and does not enable advertising-ID collection. Use Privacy choices to withdraw measurement, or change tracking permission in iPhone Settings. Events already transmitted cannot be recalled. First-party product events continue independently.
Pictures from characters
When you explicitly request and agree to a character picture, we send that fictional adult character’s reference portrait to Google Gemini for image generation. We do not send your chat messages for this feature. Generated pictures are stored privately in your Ember account and are labelled as AI-generated. Requests that fail return the reserved Black Roses. The same saved picture can be viewed again without generating it again.
AI content
Characters and their replies are generated by AI. They are fictional adults. Replies can be wrong. Do not rely on them for medical, legal or financial decisions.
Optional newsletter and invitations
Only if you separately choose to join, Ember stores your newsletter email, the consent version and confirmation time. Resend delivers the confirmation code and newsletters. You can unsubscribe in Stay close or through each newsletter. Newsletter signup does not change your sign-in or save a guest account. Invitations store the code and reward status, never your address book. We retain hashed reward receipts to prevent repeated welcome bonuses; we do not use them for advertising matching. Deleting your account removes its newsletter subscription.
Your rights
You can delete your account in Settings. This removes your profile, chats, memories, characters, balances and the voice notes, songs and pictures stored for you. You can ask for a copy of your data or a correction at support@emberstory.app.
Retention
Data stays until you delete it or your account. Purchase records may be kept as long as law requires.
Age
Ember is for adults aged 21 and over.
